Oxo Cubans

The Oxo Cubans began in 1988 as a busking band. 18 years, 4 cd’s,
3 tuba players and a drummer later they still play original songs
in ways that endlessly explore the possibilities of 5 voices,
a tuba, a trombone, a saxophone, drums and percussion.
“Oxo Cubans unveiled their foolproof method for getting an entire
audience dancing. Called the snowball the method involves two of
the five Oxos taking to the dancefloor while the remaining three
start a song. When the music stops, the dancefloor duo each take a
partner from the audience and continue dancing. When the music
stops all four take a partner and the total becomes eights, then
16, then 32, then 64 etc. Within about three minutes the entire
room was, indeed on the dancefloor – a triumph for logic over

Keep left is a 4-piece band that started in late 2003 playing under anther name performing great gigs throughout 2003-2005 at pubs and functions around Melbourne. Settling on the current line up of lead male and female vocals, backing vocals, bass, guitar and drums.
Keep left differs from most party and function cover bands by offering more variety and a great mix of styles and party favourites. The band has a full all-live sound.
Dean, the bass guitarist and male vocalist, is known for being a rock rhythm guitarist and he brings that element to his performing in Keep left. Cassarndra, the female vocalist, has played with some of Melbourne's top cover bands and also worked in the cabaret circuit in London. Brad is one of the hottest young drummers to come out of Melbourne playing hard around Melbourne in top rock bands. Jerry, the guitarist, originally from Tasmania where his original/covers band regularly played the top venues.

Shakuru was born out of a deep passion for fire dancing and performance, and a love of sharing the beauty of fire with others…and it’s a great excuse to burn stuff!?! With over 10 years fire experience between them, founding members, Sol and Bill combine the skill and grace of fire twirling with elements of martial arts, dance, acrobalance and general clowning around! The result is a mesmerising, high impact and very entertaining feast for the senses, and sure to make any event a special occasion. They mainly perform solo or duo shows, but other wonderful performers are available when needed.
Between us we have performed at various venues including– Ceres, Park Hyatt, Federation Square, Transport, Oakley, Rainbow Serpent, Vic Markets, Tempfest, 303, Noisebar, National Gallery Victoria, St Kilda Town Hall, as well as various corporate functions, weddings, festivals, rave parties and an appearance on SBS’s Noise TV.

Robert Michael Pearson has performed in the US, Canada & Japan and is
being hailed as one of the finest visual comic/cabaret performers in the
business today. While co-writing a lot of comedy routines for his former
comedy/singing group, Robert started writing his own style of comedy for
stage. Inspired by such great comedians as 'CHARLIE CHAPLIN' & 'BUSTER
KEATON' of the silent movie era, he created his own off-the-wall act.
Not only using classic & classical pieces of music for his comedy routines he also plays the
fiddle, sings opera & performs a piece from Riverdance. All this combined
he takes the audience on a wonderful journey, & with each routine he
brings to the stage, what ever the audience is expecting him to do he's
as likely to do the complete opposite, a master of misdirection, people
even think he's a ventriloquist but he's not, it's all part of the magic,
you will find out why......he is being hailed as one of the finest visual
comic/cabaret performers at present.

Dead - Set LEGENDS is a memorable night for all. Mark Andrew
touches his entire audience with his endless versatile talent to recreate
the looks and sounds of each individual character.
The show kicks off with Mark as the suave and charming Dean Martin,
dressed in a Tuxedo with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other,
Mark croons his signature songs like "Everybody Loves Somebody" and
"That's Amore". Complementing Dean Mark slips a pair of glasses on to
become the fun and classic Buddy Holly, belting out "That'll Be The Day"
and more.
Mark also transforms into John Lennon with his Liverpudlian accent
bringing to life the magic of "The Beatles" and It's Not Unusual to see
ladies underwear thrown at Mark recreating a young Tom Jones.
Mark is certainly well known for his brilliant Austin Powers performance,
developing a hilarious show with swinging songs and cheeky jokes, and
with his success as "Elvis Leaves His Mark!", finishing one of the worlds
best in 2002, there is no doubt the grand finale is no less than
spectacular.

Mark has been paying tribute to Elvis for over 9 years now and his dedication to putting on an authentic show is obvious. With a dazzling wardrobe of intricate costumes, dancing show girls, a glittering stage and a rockin 12 piece band, the audience is taken on a journey of musical masterpieces from the 50’s through to the 70’s. Mark has the moves, the voice, and above all an obvious respect for the man whose memory he is keeping alive.
The last show at Parkes Elvis Revival Festival, Mark played to a crowd of over 1000 fans. The shows were a complete sell out and the atmosphere was not unlike one would have imagined the Las Vegas Hilton to be back in the late 60’s/early 70’s. For over 2 hours, the audience was treated to a plethora of Elvis hits from all different eras along with a visually dazzling performance.
Dressed in the glittering Gold Lame’ suit that Elvis made famous back in 1957, Mark belted out songs such as ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘Don’t’ Be Cruel’, ‘A Fool Such As I’ and ‘Such A Night’. A segment of "movie hits" was a definite crowd pleaser as many rocked along to songs such as ‘Little Egypt’, ‘Kissing Cousins’ and ‘Follow That Dream’. Another real treat was an "Unplugged" set where Mark emerged in a black leather suit and recreated the 1968 Comeback Special jamming with the guys on stage to ‘That’s Alright Mama’, ‘Trouble’ and ‘Guitar Man’. The first half of the show ended poignantly with Mark changing into the ‘If I Can Dream’ white suit and singing that tune with true passion and soul.
After a brief intermission, the first strings of 2001 A Space Odyssey, sent shivers through the audience who shrieked in anticipation. Dressed in an amazing replica of Elvis’ Adonis Jumpsuit, Mark tore into ‘CC Rider’ and performed an exhilarating second half to the show – with hits such as ‘Suspicious Minds’, ‘I Cant Stop Loving You’, ‘Polk Salad Annie’ and ‘The Wonder of You’. As the show came to a close with ‘Cant Help Falling In Love With You’ he left the crowd cheering for more, then disappeared in the awesome 1960 Cadillac he had recently purchased from the States.

'Congratulation,' grinned Dr Chawla. 'You are having the malaria.'
And so begins Russell McGilton’s as he attempts to cycle from Bombay to Beijing by bicycle in the hope of writing a book about his cycling odyssey.
Inspired by a life changing event and the taste for good ol' adventure, Russell would not only battle the reoccurring malarial fevers but would unwittingly cycle near a nuclear test site, be chased by packs of wild dogs in the dead of night, run up trees to escape charging rhinos, get caught a little too near to Afghanistan during September 11 and lastly, have a stack with a yak.
Overcoming these adversities, Russell managed to complete the trip in 10 months and to successfully have his dream of having the book published (Yakety Yak: Bombay to Beijing by Bicycle Penguin Group) while a one man show of the trip Bombay to Beijing by Bicycle won the George Fairfax Playwright Competition 2003. Russell was also featured in the Melbourne Writers' Festival 2004 and has appeared on Red Symons's 774 radio program, 2UE Sydney and with Russell Gilbert on Radio SEN 1116.
Apart from this great adventure, Russell has travelled and worked in over 30 countries from sitting with mountain gorillas in the African Congo, motorcycling through typhoons in Taiwan, picking grapefruit a kibbutz and climbing Mount Kenya. Other professions include, performer and writer for children’s theatre, television producer, writer and director for commercials for TV Media Consultancy and as a director of his own advertising company, Big Mouth Promotions.
A natural speaker, Russell has tread the boards as an actor and comedian here in Australia and overseas, making appearances on Neighbours, the London comedy circuit and in a cover band as an Austin Powers/Dr Evil impersonator.
Breathtaking, exhausting and often hilarious, Russell entertaining stories and photos of his adventures will inspire anyone with an ounce of wonder dust in their pants and the courage to say ‘yes’ to the big ‘what if’ that lies out there for all of us.
